Billie Holiday - Lover Man (1985)

Billie Holiday (born Eleanora Fagan; April 7, 1915 – July 17, 1959) was an American jazz singer and songwriter.
Nicknamed "Lady Day" by her friend and musical partner Lester Young, Holiday had a seminal influence on jazz and pop singing.
Her vocal style, strongly inspired by jazz instrumentalists, pioneered a new way of manipulating phrasing and tempo.

“Lover Man” released in 1985, is A full LP issue of singles that Billie Holiday recorded for Decca during the mid and late 40s – all small group sessions, with occasional added instrumentation on small string sections, or vocals.


The sides are a nice counterpoint to Billie's work for Verve and Columbia – as the players differ nicely on many of the numbers, and a few tracks even feature a backing vocal group!

Sandra + Andres - 5 Jaar Top 10 (1973)

Sandra & Andres is een duo met Indische achtergrond, de naam waaronder zangeres Sandra Reemer en zanger-componist Dries Holten in de periode van 1966 tot 1975 samen optraden.

In 1966 brengt producer Hans van Hemert de zestienjarige Sandra Reemer en de acht jaar oudere Dries Holten bij elkaar om een nieuw muzikaal duo te vormen. Reemer geeft haar solocarrière op en Dries Holten zegt zijn producerswerk en begeleidingsorkest vaarwel.

“5 Jaar Top 10” heet deze langspeler en daar is elk woord van waar. Vijf jaar dartelen Sandra + Andres al als onafscheidelijk duo door
de hitgevoelige regionen van de showbusiness.

Vijf jaar aan de top met als indrukwekkende start “Storybook Children”, een hit, die natuurlijk op deze plaat niet ontbreekt.

Sandra zat in die tijd nog op school en ze mocht alleen in de weekenden met Andres optreden.
In 1969 deed ze eindexamen, waardoor ze eindelijk met Andres geconcentreerd aan een carriere kon gaan bouwen. Dat Beiden daarin volledig zijn geslaagd zal eenieder inmiddels zijn opgevallen.

The Hollies - Hollies Sing Dylan (1969)

“Hollies Sing Dylan” is a 1969 cover album where the Hollies sing Bob Dylan songs. It was also released in the US as “Words and Music by Bob Dylan” with a different cover but using the same band image and track order.

This album was recorded and released following Graham Nash's departure from the band to join David Crosby and Stephen Stills in mid 1968 after early sessions for a follow-up to the psychedelic concept album, Butterfly broke down. Nash became frustrated when the other band members showed opposition to lyrics in his latest compositions. By that time, Nash was the only member of the band using LSD and marijuana and a rift was forming between him and his beer drinking band-mates.

 
It´s also the first album with new member Terry Sylvester, who replaced Nash.

There have been claims that the album was hated by fans and critics alike. However it peaked at no. 3 in the UK.

In an interview for Billboard magazine in 1974, Clarke reflected on the album:

At the time I was pleased with the album but on reflection, I don't think it was a good move for the Hollies. People knocked it, saying, 'How could they ever relate to Dylan?' We thought we'd do it for Hollies fans, but I was really just reading Dylan's words, not singing them. I could have been a lot better.

ABBA - Gracias Por La Musica (1980)

“Gracias Por La Música” is a 1980 album by Swedish pop group ABBA. “Gracias Por La Música” was originally released due to the unexpected surge in popularity for the group in Latin American countries such as Mexico and Argentina after the release of the Spanish-language versions of "Chiquitita" and "I Have a Dream" in 1979. These tracks were both released as singles and went on to become big hits. Encouraged by this success, the band therefore decided to record another eight tracks in Spanish and release a full-length album especially for the Latin American market. The songs selected were familiar hits, plus tracks that were thought to have a Latin flavour, such as "Move On" and "Hasta Mañana".

The couple Buddy and Mary McCluskey, both working at RCA Records in Argentina at the time, were again called in to translate the lyrics. During the recording sessions which took place in January 1980 in the Polar Music studios the lead vocalists Agnetha Fältskog and Anni-Frid Lyngstad were helped with the pronunciation by Swedish/Spanish journalist Ana Martinez.
Neither Benny Andersson nor Björn Ulvaeus played an active role in the creation of the eight new Spanish tracks, leaving the production in the hands of the group's sound engineer Michael B. Tretow, who recorded the new Spanish vocal overdubs onto existing backing tracks at his home studio.
The absence of Andersson and Ulvaeus is most apparent on "Al Andar" (the Spanish version of "Move On") where the original opening speach from Ulvaeus was replaced by a more conventional opening verse sung by Agnetha.
Meanwhile, some of Tretow's new Spanish mixes were significantly different from their English counterparts, reflecting his own personal preferences regarding the handling of drum sounds as well as the significant time gap between the two versions, with some tracks being revisited up to six years after their original completion.
The album's title is the Spanish translation of the title of one of ABBA's hits, "Thank You for the Music".

The Osmonds - Steppin´ Out (1979)

The Osmonds are an American family music group with a long and varied career a career that took them from singing barbershop music as children to achieving success as teen-music idols, from producing a hit television show to continued success as solo and group performers. The Osmonds are devout members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and their religious values have influenced their careers.





The Osmonds began as a barbershop quartet consisting of brothers Alan, Wayne, Merril, and Jay Osmond. They were later joined by younger siblings Donny and Jimmy. Their only sister Marie, who rarely sang with her brothers at that time, launched a successful solo career in 1973. Older brothers George Virl Osmond, Jr. (Virl) and Tom Osmond were born deaf and did not originally perform.

The British label Cherry Red published in 1979 the album “Steppin´ Out”, produced by Maurice Gibb. It contains the Gibb song "Rest Your Love on me".
The album never made any way in the charts, but is still worth to listen, especially the track “Rainin´”.
"Steppin' out" was the last album of the Osmonds as a pop band and a turning point in the history of the Osmond of family, that it understood like no other, to exploit their children until far beyond the borders of acceptable and to peddle on the music industry.
The group didn't officially disband until 1980, but as a unit they had long since ceased to be a commercial force in pop music.
