Dave - Dave (1975) - Lp

Dave is the stage name of Wouter Otto Levenbach, OON (born May 4, 1944), a Francophone singer from the Netherlands who had a string of number one hits in France in the 1970s.

Despite his great success, he is still virtually unknown in his country of origin.
Dave was born in Amsterdam.

His father was Jewish and a professor of English by trade; his mother was a classical dancer. He has two brothers, Marteen and Lucas, and a sister, Elsbeth. He learned how to play guitar at 14 years of age.

At 16, he became a very spiritual person who prayed frequently and even planned to study theology; however, he eventually chose to study law, because he liked to be the one who is listened to.
Among other things, he was inspired by Jack Kerouac's On the Road , a revolutionary novel which incited the young people of the world to leave to learn the life on the roads, and to communicate with others. Passionate about the sea and rivers (a love which he owes to his grandfather), he left the Netherlands by boat in the autumn with 1,000 guilders in his pocket (about two months' living expenses).

He met Eddie Barclay, the executive for Barclay Records, in Saint-Tropez in 1968; Barclay was responsible for launching Dave's career in show business.
On February 26, 1969, he participated in the Nationaal Songfestival, the Dutch pre-selection contest for that year's Eurovision Song Contest with a song called Niets gaat zo snel, but did not win. In Summer 1969 he reached the Veronica Top 40 charts for the first time with Nathalie, peaking at #28.
From 1971 to 1974, he was one of the actors in the musical Godspell, making friends with actor Daniel Auteuil, who would become his best friend.

In 1974, he released Trop Beau, a French adaptation of The Rubettes' hit Sugar Baby Love; later, he released Vanina, an adaptation of Del Shannon's Runaway, adapted into French by Patrick Loiseau.

These were followed in 1975 by Mon cœur est malade, Dansez maintenant and Du côté de chez Swann and Ophelie.

These songs were taken from his self-titled first album, released at the end of 1975.

Dave makes himself immortal in the Netherlands with the song “Dansez Maintenant”, that reached the first place in the Top 40. The single is a French-language adaptation of “Moonlight Serenade” by Glenn Miller. And in this period is good for a sale of 3.5 million copies. 

Dave stands for the first time on the stage of the Olympia in Paris.

The Specials - More Specials (1980) - Lp

The Specials, also known as The Special AKA, are an English 2 Tone and ska revival band formed in 1977 in Coventry.

Their music combines a "danceable ska and rocksteady beat with punk's energy and attitude", and had a "more focused and informed political and social stance" than other ska groups.

More Specials is the second album by ska band The Specials, released in October 1980.

The album expanded the 2 tone sound of their self-titled debut to include lounge music and other influences.
It featured collaborations with The Go-Go's members Belinda Carlisle, Charlotte Caffey, and Jane Wiedlin; Rhoda Dakar from The Bodysnatchers; and Lee Thompson from Madness. The lyrics, like the previous album, were often intensely political.

On the charts, the album hit the Top Five in the UK, where "Rat Race", "Stereotype" and "Do Nothing" hit the Top Ten.

More Specials was a hit in the two-tone movement, a late-1970s revival of Jamaican ska from the 1960s.
Along with bands like the Bodysnatchers and Madness,

The Specials were leaders in this revival, and later heroes for two further ska-punk revivals on the opposite side of the Atlantic: the late 1980s Southern California scene (NOFX, Operation Ivy) and the mid-1990s "third wave of ska" (Sublime, No Doubt) which popularised the mixture in the US.
The album was Recorded at Horizon Studios, Coventry. Mixed at Wessex Studios, London.

The Blue Diamonds - Gouden Favorieten Parade (1977) - Lp

The Blue Diamonds was een Nederlands duo bestaande uit de broers Riem (Depok/West-Java, 15 april 1943) en Ruud de Wolff (Batavia, 12 mei 1941 - Driebergen, 18 december 2000).
De broers, van Indisch-Nederlands afkomst, braken in 1960 door met de wereldwijde hit Ramona.

Riem en Ruud de Wolff kwamen in 1949 met hun ouders naar Nederland en zongen in hun tienerjaren op schoolfeesten in bandjes als The String Extase Boys en The Cool Cats.

Het repertoire bestond voornamelijk uit covers van The Everly Brothers. In 1960 stond hun uitvoering van de song Ramona uit 1927 maandenlang in de hitlijsten, en ook in veel andere landen was het nummer een grote hit. Andere succesnummers uit die tijd waren onder andere Oh Carol en Little Ship.

Begin jaren zestig toerden de broers samen met Anneke Grönloh door Indonesië, terwijl in Nederland en andere Europese landen verschillende nummers de hitparade haalden.

Voor Ramona ontvingen de broers een Edison uit handen van Wim Sonneveld, nadat er zeven miljoen exemplaren waren verkocht. Ook in de jaren zeventig brachten The Blue Diamonds diverse singles uit, maar het stormachtige succes van Ramona werd niet meer geëvenaard. Dat trof als eerste hun versie van Save the last dance for me.

Begin jaren tachtig namen zij in Indonesië diverse platen op in het Maleis, waarvan miljoenen exemplaren over de toonbank gingen.

Tot de dood van Ruud de Wolff in december 2000 bleven The Blue Diamonds platen maken en optreden. Echt grote successen bleven uit, maar de typische Blue Diamonds-sound bleef populair.
Na de dood van Ruud bleef Riem de Wolff optreden, als soloartiest met een begeleidingsband, en als duo met zijn zoon Steffen onder de naam The New Diamonds. Op 29 april 2005 werd Riem de Wolff benoemd tot Ridder in de orde van Oranje Nassau.

Op dit verzamelalbum van The Blue Diamonds, geldt dat het repertoire, onverbrekelijk verbonden is met de geschiedenis van het duo.

Long Tall Ernie & The Shakers - Put On Your Rockin´ Shoes (1972) - Lp

Long Tall Ernie and the Shakers was een Arnhemse rock-'n-rollband, die zich op het podium presenteert als gemene vetkuiven en op plaat vooral scoort met gestroomlijnde rock-’n-roll.
The Moans, genoemd naar een nummer van Art Blakey, was midden jaren 60 een muzikale uitspatting van een aantal Arnhemse Kunstacademiestudenten.

De band had vanaf het eerste uur onder meer pianist Herman Brood in de gelederen. Nadat Brood zijn carrière voortzette bij Cuby and the Blizzards, ging the Moans nog enige tijd verder als Moan en Moan Nightmare.

Moan mondde in 1972, bij wijze van grap, uit in Long Tall Ernie and the Shakers.
Bij optredens speelde Moan voor de pauze progressieve popmuziek om daarna, verkleed als rockers, terug te komen voor rock-'n-rollcovers onder de naam Long Tall Ernie and the Shakers.

Frontman werd Arnie Treffers (Long Tall Ernie), leadgitarist Alfons Haket (alias Alfie Muscles), bassist Hank Bruijsten (Hank the Knife) en - korte tijd later - drummer Alan Macfarlane (Tenderfoot Macfarlane). Even later wordt Jan Rietman, bij The Shakers Jumping Jhonny genoemd, als pianist toegevoegd.

In een aflevering van het fameuze VPRO-tv-programma Het Gat van Nederland in 1972 werd de grap door regisseur Theo Uittenbogaard visueel gedocumenteerd met opnamen van de Shakers in het beruchte Arnhemse Spijkerkwartier, met jakkerende auto's en motoren, vechtpartijen en handtastelijkheden en besloten met een stomend optreden in het Amsterdamse Concertgebouw.

In 1972 verschijnt hun debut album "Put On Your Rockin´ Shoes", de nummers, Kiss Me Baby, Motor Man en Every Night (I´m Lonely) komen op single uit.
