Herbie Hancock - Lite Me Up (Lp) (1982) - €10,00

Lite Me Up is a disco-funk album by Herbie Hancock
It was Hancock’s first release without producer David Rubinson since 1969.
On this album, Hancock was influenced by his long-time friend, producer Quincy Jones and sessions included many musicians associated with Jones including Steve Lukather and Jeff Porcaro of Toto. The album was the first on which Hancock played the Synclavier, a digital polyphonic synthesizer.
By 1978, Hancock had another identity as a dance/fusion attraction with the albums Feets Don’t Fail Me Now and Sunlight
Lite Me Up is an even more concerted effort to fuse jazz with pop. Hancock handled all of the production chores on all but two of the eight tracks.
His main arranger and lyricist here is Rod Temperton, the former Heatwave member who worked with Quincy Jones on albums Off the Wall and Light Up the Night. The title track and “The Bomb” are glossy, propulsive offerings reminiscent of prime Jones without his skill at making it all stick.
The biggest hit here, the sleek “Getting’ to the Good Part” adheres to the Steely Dan‘s Gaucho style, has a gorgeous bridge, and has Hancock doing his loved or hated vocoder lead vocals.
From a jazz perspective, there is precious little of it on Lite Me Up. In fact, the songs “The Fun Tracks” and the humorous “Motor Mouth” sound like Heatwave retreads.
The last song stands out, however.
The beautiful, hooky ballad “Give It All Your Heart” features both Hancock and Patrice Rushen both doing their vocal leads on vocoder.
The track perfectly captures both prime Temperton and Hancock’s ’78-’82 fusion ballad style. Songs with producers Jay Graydon and Narada Michael Walden both feature the artist doing vocals without the gadgetry, and, believe it or not, the vocoder is more definitive.
Despite the better tracks, Lite Me Up doesn’t have the adventurous nature of Hancock’s jazz/pop of the era.

Navel - A Rainy Day At Château Lafite '41 (Lp) (1978) - €7,99

Haagse band met gitarist Joris Kila en toetsenman Wim Oudijk (later in Trespassers W). Als zangessen o.a. Beatrix Willemstein (ex-Toby Collar, later in Bennet & Bee) en Lisa Schulte Nordholt. Bandnaam afgekort tot Navel.
Lekker album met de singles "Playback" en "Only for You".

White Honey - Some Kinda Woman (Lp) (1979) - €7,99

De single Nothing Going On In The City wordt in 1980 opnieuw uitgebracht.

Soundtrack - Ghostbusters (Lp) (1984) - €10,00

Ghostbusters: Original Soundtrack Album is the soundtrack album for the 1984 film of the same name, released by Arista Records on June 8, 1984.
The soundtrack includes the Billboard Hot 100 number one hit "Ghostbusters", written and performed by Ray Parker Jr.

A good collection of 80s songs and some of the score. Of course there is the classic Ray Parker Jr. song, plus an instrumental version of it which I like.
My favorites are Magic, Savin' the Day, and Hot Night. Several of the songs remind you of scenes in the movie.
Like hearing the Thompson Twins song, and thinking of the Ghostbusters eating Chinese food. Yep.
The "Ghostbusters" main theme was probably one of the most popular movie themes in the 80s. But there are also some underrated themes in there: The Thompson Twins' "In the name of love", Laura Branigan's "Hot night", Mick Smiley's "Magic", and so on. The orchestral themes by Elmer Benrstein are also great, specially "Dana's theme", although they feel a little out of place among the "pop" themes.   The album takes you back to 1984, too.

A1.  Ray Parker Jr. - Ghostbusters   (4:03)

Lime - 3 (Lp) (1983) - €10,00

Lime is such an '80s timepiece hitting nearly every 1983 stereotype on Lime III. However perhaps being Canadian they didn't take themselves too seriously.

Although this album wasn't groundbreaking or earth shattering as their previous album, the 3rd release from this canadian disco act still shines brightly on the dance floor!
Fun stuff and high production values for something cheesy.

From the kick off shine of "Guilty", the futuristic leanings of "On The Grid", to my personal favorite, "Angel Eyes", this album gleams and sparkles like no other electro-pop album released in 1983!
Denis lepage takes full advantage of sounds found within his Roland Jupiter 8, Roland juno 60, and the Roland tr 808 drum machine. and even if denyse lepage's high pitched squealy vocals start to not make any sense(save for the fact that i get to rediscover classic albums like lime's), sense would be the last thing i'd want to make!

Soundtrack - American Gigolo (composed by Giorgio Moroder) (Lp) (1980) - €10,00

American Gigolo is the soundtrack album to the 1980 movie of the same name, starring Richard Gere and Lauren Hutton. The music was composed and performed by Italian musician Giorgio Moroder and was released worldwide on the Polydor label.
It peaked at #7 on the Billboard 200 album chart. All the cuts from the soundtrack also went to number two for five weeks on the disco/dance charts.

While this soundtrack is arguably most notable for introducing Middle America to Blondie, there is also some interesting incidental music written by legendary producer Giorgio Moroder and performed by Harold Faltermeyer and Keith Forsey -- the latter of which may be familiar to some as percussionist for the German prog/art rock collective Amon Düül. There is likewise a vocal contribution from actress/vocalist Cheryl Barnes on "Love and Passion."
The album's pervading heavily manufactured and synthetically generated atmosphere is convincing in its aural depiction of the shallow decadence portrayed on the screen. The primary impetus for the release was the "extended version" of Blondie's "Call Me," which was unavailable on any Blondie album and was too long -- at over eight minutes -- to fit onto a single.
The song was co-composed by Debbie Harry and Moroder specifically for this project, becoming the second chart-topper for the band, ultimately staying at number one for six weeks in March of 1980. The film's writer/director Paul Schrader -- whose lengthy list of cinematic endeavors include Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, The Last Temptation of Christ, and The Mosquito Coast -- is credited on the soundtrack as Moroder's collaborator on the up-tempo "Love and Passion." Vocalist Cheryl Barnes -- who may be best-remembered for her role in Milos Forman's Hair as "Hud's girlfriend" -- contributes vocals to the mostly forgettable track.
The other six instrumentals blend a noir ambience with the utility of background music. The most notable is "Hello Mr. W.A.M" -- whose initials stand for Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart -- which contains some interesting observations on his Concerto for Clarinet in A Major.
Each work contains strong themes that take on lives of their own. This is not surprising given the heady talent behind the compositions and performances. Consumers of movie music will find as much -- if not more -- to enjoy here than those who are simply looking for "Call Me."

"Call Me" by Blondie is the lead song for the soundtrack and was played during the film's intro. The song, which in the early stages was an instrumental demo titled "Man Machine," had originally been offered to Fleetwood Mac's Stevie Nicks, but Nicks declined and Blondie instead recorded the song with lyrics by lead vocalist Debbie Harry
The single, released on Blondie's label Chrysalis Records in February 1980, was a number one hit in the U.S., Canada and the U.K., and a top ten hit in most other parts of the world. It was No. 1 on the U.S. Billboard charts for six weeks and named Billboard's No. 1 song of 1980. The song is listed at No. 44 on Billboard's All Time Top 100.
In 1981, the song was also nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal.
The band also recorded a Spanish-language version of "Call Me," entitled "Llamame," released both in the U.S. and South America. Giorgio Moroder's instrumental track "Night Drive," another variation on the "Man Machine"/"Call Me" theme, was also issued as a single in certain territories.

The song "Love and Passion" was written by director Paul Schrader and Moroder and was performed by Cheryl Barnes, and can be heard in the movie in the gay nightclub scene (filmed at Los Angeles gay club The Probe, which opened in 1978) where Gere's character Julian goes to find Leon, his pimp.

The Giorgio Moroder instrumental "The Seduction (Love Theme)" was also recorded by German bandleader James Last as a saxophone tune featuring David Sanborn (uncredited). This cover version peaked at number 28 in the Billboard Hot 100 in May 1980.
