Based in Los Angeles, The Waters are family group Luther, Julia, Oren and Maxine Waters who have recorded or toured as backing vocalists with many soul, jazz and rock artists through the '70's, '80's and '90's.
These include Bobby Womack, Pharaoh Sanders, Herbie Hancock, Alphonse Mouzon, Benny Golson, Blue Mitchell, Neil Diamond, Patti La Belle, Paul Simon, John Fogerty, Janet and Michael Jackson, Gene Harris, Gene Dunlap, Billy Paul, Will Downing and Glenn Jones.
Outside of the R & B field they have sung with artists including Bon Jovi, Rod Stewart and Bruce Springsteen on more than 200 gold and platinum albums.
As a group they have recorded their own albums for labels including 'The Waters' (Blue Note, 1975), 'What's On Your Mind' (Warner Brothers 1979) and 'Watercolors' (Arista 1980).
In the early nineties they were involved in setting up their own label.
In 2013, the group featured in the film '20 Feet From Stardom' (Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature at the 86th Academy Awards), which was a movie dedicated to the role of background vocalists from an R&B background.
Oren Waters has also contributed to several movie soundtracks including 'Happy Feet', 'The Lion King', 'The Matrix' and 'American Gangster'.
He currently teaches vocal performance at the California College of Music.
